Men vs. Women: 10 Most Desired Traits

Have you ever made a list of top characteristics that you are looking for in perfect date? Many daters like to qualify the things they find most important in a partner in order to create a successful relationship. At It’s Just Lunch, we ask all of our clients to define the top three characteristics that they desire in a match. I was intrigued to determine which characteristics make the “most desirable” list for men in comparison to women. Of course, in any relationship the physical attraction and chemistry have to be present; however, those areas are not only subjective, they often develop over time. With that in mind, I excluded “attraction” and “active” (often synonymous with thin) from my research. The top ten most selected traits are listed below).

I was not surprised to learn that both men and women have similar lists within our clientele. In fact, both sexes agreed that intelligence and a compatible sense of humor had the highest weight in creating a successful relationship. Other traits that overlapped in both the male and female top ten lists include trustworthy/honest, open minded, playful/fun, confident, and driven/ambitious.

So my advice to daters? Prove to your date that you are a stand-up, honest person. Tell them about the endeavors that you are passionate about and why they are meaningful to you. Bring up goofy commentary that you may be thinking but unsure about sharing. Be confident in the unique person that you are. All of your life experiences have molded you into your present self; own them! Be open to trying on others’ perspectives and interests. Most importantly, be open to straying from your “top list” because people can surprise you!
